This weekend, some churches will be declaring the light of Christ in the community through light parties and Halloween pit stops, and so we pray for their many opportunities to share the love of Jesus this week. For others, this weekend will be a time to pray against the powers of darkness and evil in this world, and we stand with you in prayer.
It is also a season for remembering believers who have gone before us and praying for those who are grieving.
Throughout it all, we remember this words from the opening of John’s Gospel: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5, NIV). So we pray:
Lord Jesus,
You are the light that no darkness can overcome.
When the nights feel long and the world feels uncertain,
help us to shine with your hope.
Give us courage to shine bright for you,
in our streets, our schools and our workplace
that your light would show the way
and bring the world back you.
Amen.
