Role Purpose:
The Community Support Advisor will play a vital role in supporting individuals and families to improve their financial wellbeing. Working within a community-focused charitable setting, the post holder will provide practical budgeting support, advice, and guidance to help service users maximise their income and access wider support services. The role involves frontline engagement across the Advice Hub, foodbank sessions, and the organisation’s main offices. The post holder will ensure accurate data capture and case recording while maintaining a compassionate, person-centred approach. The role also includes completing daily administrative tasks required to support the effective running of the foodbank service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide practical, person-centred budgeting support, offering advice and guidance to help service users maximise income and build financial resilience
- Engage with service users in a respectful, inclusive, and non-judgemental manner, including during foodbank sessions, to capture engagement and identify additional support needs
- Deliver frontline support within the Advice Hub, responding to enquiries and providing appropriate guidance and signposting
- Make timely and appropriate internal and external referrals to partner organisations and support services
- Manage sensitive and sometimes complex conversations with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Accurately record service user interactions, outcomes, impact and referrals, maintaining clear and up-to-date case notes
- Update and maintain the CRM database, ensuring client details and engagement are logged accurately
- Carry out follow-up contact surveys with service users to monitor progress and measure the impact of the support they have received
- Ensure all personal and sensitive information is handled in line with data protection, confidentiality, and safeguarding policies
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and external partners to achieve positive outcomes for service users
- Contribute to service monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement through accurate data entry and record keeping
- Complete ad-hoc administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the foodbank and associated services
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience supporting individuals in a frontline, advice, or support-based role
- A compassionate, person-centred, and non-judgemental approach when working with people experiencing financial hardship
- Ability to manage sensitive conversations and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Strong administrative and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail
- Experience of, or familiarity with, CRM or case management databases
- Competence in using Microsoft Outlook and Windows-based software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- Experience providing budgeting, financial inclusion, or welfare advice
- Experience working within the charity, voluntary, or community sector
- Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways
