It’s easy to rush past the world on our doorstep. We drive the same roads, pass the same houses, and forget to notice where we are. But God has placed in this particular corner of Sussex for a reason, with its woods, rivers, and winding streets.
This week is Geography Awareness Week, and it’s a good reminder to slow down and pay attention, to see God’s fingerprints in the ordinary things: the curve of the hills on the horizon, the sound of rain on pavements, the way neighbours look out for one another. Prayer often begins with seeing God at work around us.
This week, perhaps take a walk and pray as you go. Thank God for what you see. Pray for the people behind the doors you pass. Ask how your church might bless the community you’re part of. Seasons turn, light shifts, and still grace holds everything together.
So we pray:
Creator God,
thank you for the ground beneath our feet
and for the world that holds us.
Teach us to walk gently,
to notice beauty,
to care for creation,
and to love our neighbours near and far.
May our prayers rise from the soil of this place
and reach the whole earth you have made.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
