This year marks the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale’s groundbreaking English New Testament, first published in 1526. As the first complete New Testament translated from Greek into English and printed for ordinary people to read, Tyndale’s work transformed both the Church and the English language, despite being banned and widely suppressed at the time.
To mark this significant anniversary, two major London exhibitions are taking place:
- The Power of the Printed Word: Tyndale’s New Testament 1526–2026 at the British Library, a free exhibition exploring the history and impact of Tyndale’s translation, running until 29 June 2026. Visit their website for more information.
- A Dangerous Calling: 500 Years of William Tyndale’s New Testament at St Paul’s Cathedral, opening on 5 June 2026 and featuring one of only three surviving first-edition copies of Tyndale’s New Testament. For further details, opening times and ticket information, visit the exhibition website.
